Kansas Trails, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting trail systems across Kansas, needed a modern, user-friendly trail mapping navigation solution to better serve its growing community. To meet this need, we developed a new, web-based trail navigation app that reimagines and replaces the organization’s previous native mobile app, Get Outdoors Kansas.

This upgraded platform offers a seamless experience across all devices without requiring installation, making it more accessible to a wider audience. By transitioning from a native mobile app to a responsive web app, Kansas Trails now benefits from simplified maintenance and quicker updates. The app includes Progressive Web App (PWA) features to deliver a mobile-friendly interface and supports advanced caching for offline access—critical for trail users exploring areas with limited connectivity.

Designed to support volunteers, community members, and outdoor enthusiasts, the map helps users discover, navigate, and engage with trail systems throughout the state. It also reinforces Kansas Trail’s mission by fostering deeper connections between people and the natural landscapes of Kansas.
